1. How do I get my apps onto my Huawei device without the Google PlayStore?
First of all we recommend that you transfer most of your existing apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Spotify via the Phone Clone app from your current handset to your new Huawei device. Secondly the pre-installed HUAWEI AppGallery has a lot of the top apps available including Depop, TikTok, Microsoft Office and many more. It also includes official download links for apps such as Facebook and WhatsApp. But if you cannot find the app you are looking for in the Huawei AppGallery you can find and download them from 3rd party App markets or for apps such as Gmail or YouTube you can use the browser version.
2. What is the Huawei AppGallery? What are its functions?
Huawei AppGallery is the official app distribution platform for Huawei smartphones and tablets, it is the 3rd largest app marketplace in the world available in more than 170 countries. An app store where users can easily and securely discover, find and download thousands of apps from around the world. Huawei aims to make AppGallery an open, innovative app platform that strictly protects users’ privacy and security, while providing a unique and smart experience. 3. What is Huawei Mobile Services (HMS)? / What services can it provide?
Based on Huawei’s all-scenario device strategy, Huawei Mobile Service (HMS) through its own apps and services, gathers global developer partners around the world to build an ecosystem for apps. These apps and services include portal services like HUAWEI AppGallery, HUAWEI Assistant and HUAWEI Browser; core services like HUAWEI Cloud and content services like HUAWEI Video, HUAWEI Music and Huawei Reader, as well as services for daily life, education and IoT, providing global users with a smart and high-quality lifestyle for all scenarios. HMS incorporates Huawei’s chip, device and cloud capabilities, including a full portfolio of HMS Core services and related IDE tools and platforms for development and testing, along with key applications for Huawei devices such as HUAWEI AppGallery, HUAWEI Browser, HUAWEI Video and more. HMS, together with third-party applications and services running on Huawei devices, is building the HMS ecosystem, an intelligent, mobile and interconnected ecosystem for Huawei users. HMS also provides developers with a platform that enables them to easily publish apps globally for all devices in all scenarios, so that they can focus on innovation and development.
4. What is the difference between Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) and Google Mobile Services (GMS)？
Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) is an ecosystem for apps built by the cooperation of global developer partners based on Huawei's all-scenario device strategy and its self-developed apps and service capabilities. Both HMS and GMS are running Android Open Source Project (Android system) and they both support Android apps. However, some Android apps that require Google support may not work properly on the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) platform. Huawei is working with global app developers to continuously improve the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) platform to offer premium user experience.
5. How many applications are currently connected to the HMS ecosystem?
The Huawei AppGallery has over 390M active users in 170+ countries, so we believe it will offer people a great way to install the apps they want. The Huawei AppGallery also has over one million applications worldwide, and has had over 180 billion cumulative application downloads in the past year. Currently, there are more than 45,000 applications which can access HMS Core worldwide – a year on year increase of over 65%.
6. What alternatives will Huawei provide to consumers to replace Google apps and services, for example GPS navigation?
Huawei AppGallery launched in April 2018 globally, and is preloaded on every Huawei device. There are many choices for consumers when it comes to the apps they use on a daily basis, including a variety of services for maps (including Maps.me), email and video content. Customers are free to download any other apps they wish to online. Popular apps such as Facebook and WhatsApp are easily transferred via PhoneClone, or the download links which are available in the AppGallery.
7. Will Huawei Smartphones and tablets continue to get software and security updates?
They will continue to provide security updates to keep all Huawei devices secure. 8. Does this Mean I will not have GOOGLE APPS installed / If the phone does not have GMS, how do I use Google Apps?
Currently it’s not possible to download Google apps on new Huawei devices. However, all Huawei smartphones come with pre-installed easy-to-use apps such as Huawei Browser, to easily browse the web, and Huawei Cloud, for safe and secure cloud storage. 9. Will the absence of GMS affect users from using Facebook, Twitter and other apps?
Download links for Facebook and WhatsApp can be found in the AppGallery, or you can download them directly from their websites. We have many apps in the Huawei AppGallery and other apps can be downloaded from third party app stores. Not all apps will have been optimised by developers for Android AOSP therefore individual app experiences may vary depending on the level of GMS integration into an app.
10. What if I can't find the desired APP in Huawei AppGallery?
If you cannot find an app in HUAWEI AppGallery, try the below options:
1) Using Huawei Phone clone App can bring over most of the UK top apps.
2) Please add the app name to Wish list within AppGallery. We will then notified when this app is available in HUAWEI AppGallery.
3) You may also try using a web browser to access the app.
